Things to consider before choosing a web hosting service

I remember the day when I decided to start a blog & was struggling to narrow down a domain name. The confusion, frustration that I had gone through still haunts me. After realizing that there are so many web hosting service providers & it really confused me to which service provider is the best. And am sure, everyone out here would have gone through the same or will go through the same in future.

Before you begin, ask your friends who are already using a web hosting service for their blog / website. Make a list of all the service providers which they recommend you. The few ones which I know (most of my contacts are hosting with them) are as follows:

If you happen to go with Host Zeon, make sure you use my coupon code which will give you 10% discount for the first year. And yes, domain name comes free with every plan.

There are many others but I know many of my contacts / clients are using the mentioned ones. Also before you begin your search for the right web host, you must be aware of the types of web hosting available: Shared, Dedicated & Re-seller Hosting. But for a start, shared web hosting plans would be the best option. Here I share some of the things to consider before choosing a web hosting service:

  • Service providers
List down all the web hosting service providers you come across or were recommended by your friends.
  • Web Hosting Plans & Pricing
You know how much you will be able to shell out on a yearly basis if you go ahead with a web hosting provider. This will play a crucial rule in your decision. Check out cost of the plans offered by each service provider including the services offered. Some basic plans would allow hosting of one domain only but also do check if there are other plans which support unlimited domains.
  • Storage & Bandwidth
Nowadays most of the major web hosting providers offer unlimited storage & bandwidth plans. But make sure if there are any limitations the provider has mentioned.
  • Script support
Script support comes default with the web hosting plans but its better to confirm. Many providers have one click installation of the scripts so if you want to install WordPress on your server or any other script, you can easily do that with the help of these one click installation feature.
  • Uptime & Backup support
Uptime is the amount of time that a server has stayed up and running. This is usually listed as a percentage, like "99.9% uptime." Uptime is a great measure of how good a web hosting provider is at keeping their systems up and running. If a hosting provider has a high uptime percentage, then that means that their servers stay up and running and so any site you host with them should stay up and running too.
  • Customer Support
Try to initiate a contact with the customer support of the service providers via online chat support or email. Ask your doubts and make things clear before you make a purchase.
