We all know by now what Twitter is capable of & how good it is when it comes to connecting with people around, getting news even before its picked up by any news channel, marketing your services & increasing traffic to blog/website. However every good thing comes with certain limitations & Twitter is no exception to that. And in a way limitations are good because it controls the usability for better & refined experience.
Most of the limitations set by Twitter won't affect you because you may not reach near to that phenomenon. But still, its best to be aware of these limitations in order to avoid getting into Twitter jail. That means you wont be able to tweet for certain amount of hours. So here are the Twitter limits you should be aware of:
- Tweets (daily)
You can post 2,400 tweets per day. The daily update limit is further broken down into smaller limits for semi-hourly intervals. Retweets are counted as tweets.
- Direct messages (daily)
The limit is 1,000 messages sent per day.
- Changes to account email
Four per hour.
- Following (daily)
The technical follow limit is 1,000 per day. But its certainly not recommended that you follow till the limit. I would probably say 50-75 a day would be a good number & if you are a newbie then 10-15 would be a decent number.
- Following (account-based)
Once an account is following 5,000 other users, additional follow attempts are limited by account-specific ratios. Once you’ve followed 5000 users, there are limits to the number of additional users you can follow: this limit is different for every user and is based on your ratio of followers to following.
- Twitter lists
You can create up to 1,000 lists and each list can include up to 5,000 accounts (members).
I hope now that you are aware of these limitations, you would try to stay in your limits to avoid getting into Twitter jail :D
